    7.             INTERNATIONAL CAMP : 22 –  24th  MAY  2015 –  OKKIE JOOSTE CAMP SITE, STELLENBOSCH

This year we have the honour of Kancho Royama our International Chairman being present at the camp. Our annual International camp always proved to be very interesting and enjoyable.  During the International camp we will learn new and interesting techniques from our visiting Japanese Instructors , while we will use the September camp to prepare the karateka going for brown and black belt for their grading.  All karateka 8 years and older are welcome to attend.

Pre-Primary Karateka and younger scholars can attend the camp on Saturday 23rd May 2015 from 1 pm till 5 pm to experience the camp. The fee will be R150.00 – will include early dinner, cooldrink and fruit.   Students will be allowed to have their uniforms signed by the Japanese instructors.

That Saturday we will have an exciting one match tournament at the DF Hall at Coetzenburg to show Kancho the standard and depth of our fighters. All karateka who are attending the camp (also the day campers) will be transported by bus to the tournament and they will be allowed free entrance. We will have a karate demonstration by the junior karateka in honour of Kancho and will prepare for it at the camp. We would like the parents to please attend the tournament. The entrance fee for adults will be R30 and other children R20. The fighting will be very exciting as our top juniors will be competing with fighters from the other countries and provinces. The tournament will start at 19h00 and be finished before 21h00. We will appreciate it if you could come and support our young fighters.

On Sunday day afternoon we will have a grading from 13h30 for senior instructors. Parents can fetch their children from 14h00.

I realize that some might be writing exams so they will have some time to study.  The grading will be for senior instructors and not open to the public.

These camps are compulsory for karateka who wants to grade in December 2015  for their brown and black belts.

***    Karateka must arrange their own transport for May camp  (NO BUSSES) .  A map is available.

    8.             INSTRUCTOR’S COURSE:

Dates for 3rd term:   24 April, 8 May and 12 June. Fridays from 16h00 – 17h30. Please mark it off.

Fees  :   R300 per term  (Payable in advance)

    9.             GRADING MAY – JUNE 2015

The Pre-Primary students will grade on May 30th, while the scholars with white belts will start on the 6th June 2015.    You will receive a full breakdown of times before the end of April 2015.

    10.            REGISTRATION OF STUDENTS

For the first time in 40 Years Kyokushin karate will now be recognized by Sascoc as a separate sport from traditional karate as our tournament rules are completely different. But to be accepted we have to prove that we have enough dojo’s and students. We need to register every student, dojo, and organization now. The cost per student is R30 per year.

Information we need for this Dojo:   full name/surname, date of birth and colour belt.  No photo is required.

Then all students need to be registered to Kyokushin-kan in Japan.  This is a life time registration and cost R150. We also need a photo of head and shoulders (Passport size) / full names & surname / date of birth /current kyu and last date of grading to make sure that there are no mistakes.  Japan will issue a membership card with a scanned photo.

The instructors will give out special envelopes to all students as we need to do all the registrations before our grading starts in June. This takes time so please try and have this done by end April. According to our regulations I am not allowed to grade any student that is not registered in Japan. I did receive permission to exclude pre-school children but they can register if they want to receive the membership card they will have to buy next year anyway.

I hope that all karateka’s standard will improve a great deal this term. Attending the camp will help a lot. If you find that the school’s winter sport program clashes with the karate times, please phone our office or look at our website for alternative training times at nearby dojo’s. It is impossible to please everybody but I am sure that we can make a suitable plan. Your children will only experience the tremendous benefits of karate if they attend the classes on a regular basis.

    Karate Greetings

           24th April 2015

Dear Karateka

INTERNATIONAL CAMP -   22– 24th  MAY 2015  -  STELLENBOSCH

I would like to invite all Pre-Primary Karateka and the younger scholars under the age of 10 to attend our International Camp at the Okkie Jooste Campsite in Jonkershoek on SATURDAY 23rd MAY 2015.

This year we have the honour of Kancho Royama, our International Chairman being present at the camp as well as 2 very senior Japanese to instruct at the camp.  These instructor’s main goal at this camp will be to teach our instructors and karateka to further develop the karateka’s technical skills. We would like to introduce our younger karateka to these instructors to see the standard of their karate.

The kids will train from 13h30 till 17h00 and must be there by 13h00. They will train with one of the Japanese instructors who will also sign the back of their Dogi (uniform). The fee will be R150 and must be paid in advance. This will include early dinner, cooldrink and fruit.

We will have an exciting one match tournament at the DF Hall, Coetzenburg on Saturday evening,  to show Kancho the standard and depth of our fighters.  All karateka (including day campers) will be transported by bus to the tournament and they will be allowed free entrance.  We will have a karate demonstration by junior karateka in honour of Kancho and will prepare at the camp.   We would like the parents to please attend the tournament.   The entrance fee for adults will be R30 and other children R20. The fighting will be very exciting as our top juniors will be competing with fighters from the other countries and provinces.   The tournament will start at 19h00 and be finished before 21h00.   We will appreciate your support for our young fighters.

PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING:  Karate-gi, running shoes, tracksuit top and eating utensils (knife, forks, spoon, coffee mug and a hollow plate – everything neatly marked).

Karate Greetings

NEW TERM HAS STARTED AND I WOULD LIKE TO REMIND ALL PARENTS THAT FEES ARE PAYABLE IN ADVANCE -   Please settle by end July 2015

Students who’s fees are not paid in full for the 1st & 2nd term will be asked to sit out from 3rd August

2015.   we cannot teach your child if the fees are not paid.  I know that your child will feel embarrassed but this is really your fault as the 3rd  term’s fees are now due.

Urgent request:    If you consider paying via EFT please state your child’s name & surname & Dojo where he/she

trains as reference and NOT only names / fees / kyokushin / cell no / initial & surname  etc – as we cannot allocate your

payment!!!

From the last (4th) term we will introduce a debit order system through Absa Bank. As it is a continuous struggle, it has

become too time consuming and expensive task to get the fees in. There will be no extra cost to you and you will have

the choice of paying per month, term or year.  We will only introduce this payment system to children form grade one

and older as most pre-school children will be in different schools next year. I hope that you will support us so that we

can spend our time teaching karate. We will send you an email with the form so that you can complete it and return it by

email or to the instructors or office in Welgemoed. All necessary information will be sent via email.

2.             FEEDBACK ABOUT  MAY / JUNE 2015 GRADING:

We are pleased with the first grading of 2015 but I feel that the green belts can improve their suppleness and kata. Please do some stretching on your own. Remember that once you reach the level of green belt you should train 3 hours per week. On Wednesday evenings we have special training for the green and brown belts from 18h00 to 19h30 at Welgemoed.

3.             KSA FULL CONTACT SENIOR KARATE TOURNAMENT, GAUTENG

Above tournament will take place in Gauteng on Saturday 8th August 2015.  A team will be chosen after above tournament to represent  South Africa/Africa in the KWU World Weight Category Championships in Russia in October 2015

4.             SPECIAL GRADING  -  13 August 2015

This special grading is only for Karateka that have not graded during May and June due to health reasons or other problems.  This grading will take place on THURSDAY 13th August at 18h15.  Please ensure that you arrive 15 minutes before the grading time to enable you to register and dressed in your GI.   Grading fees are the same as on the grading letter and colour belts will be available at R50.00 per belt. If you are unsure if you are ready, ask your instructor.

5.             SASCOC TOURNAMENT  -  22 AUGUST 2015 -  SWARTKLIP HALL,  MITCHELLS PLAIN.

This tournament is for our best fighters who have experience to compete on a higher level. Very young fighters under 7 years do not have to have so much experience as most children competing here is very young. But from under 11 years they need to be experienced. Karateka who are placed first and second in this tournament will receive full WP colors.

6              NOVICE KARATE TOURNAMENT -  29 AUGUST 2015

We will host the abovementioned tournament at the BELLPARK Primary school, Sandford Street, Bellville on SATURDAY 29th AUGUST 2015  The school is situated just off Bill Bezuidenhout Drive just below the N1. This give karateka up to Purple belt the opportunity to gain experience before fighting major tournaments. We will do kumite (sparring) and kata.   (A detailed letter will follow shortly)

7              KOBUDO  (WEAPONS)  GRADING

A weapons grading took place on Tuesday 26th JUNE 2015.   The results are as follow:

Dear Parents and Karateka                                                                                                                      15 September 2015

RE:  KARATE CAMP FROM  23rd to 25th   OF OCTOBER 2015   AT OKKIE JOOSTE CAMP SITE, STELLENBOSCH

I would like to use this opportunity to inform you timeously about our camp from Friday the 23rd October  to Sunday the 25th  of October 2015  at the OKKIE JOOSTE CAMPSITE, STELLENBOSCH.

As we have a big facility we can also accommodate junior Karateka from 8 years old to attend this camp.  We will leave by bus on Friday at 18h00 from the Karl Bremer Hospital’s parking area and will meet you there again on Sunday at 18h00.

The Pre-grading will take place at Campsite for Karateka grading for brown and black belts on Sunday from 13h00 – 15h00.    At the camp we will prepare the Karateka for the grading.   Karateka who do not attend this camp will not be allowed to grade in December 2015.    NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE!!!.

We will sleep in proper sleeping quarters with 2 halls that we can use for  training, in case of bad weather.  No boys will be allowed in the girl’s sleeping quarters and vice versa.  Parents will be contacted immediately to fetch their son/daughter if this should occur.  There is a public phone booth available at the campsite, therefore NO CELLULAR PHONES are allowed on the camp.  In case of emergency you can contact Shihan Hennie at 083 626 7878 or Abe Arendse at 082 9342 887.

Our  caterers will ensure that we will have a balanced diet, including fruit and fruit juices.  The higher grades will train for 6 hours a day and the lower grades will train 3 hours a day.  Karateka are more than welcome to bring along their toys, like cricket sets, rugby balls, soccer balls, Frisbees, etc.  There will be at least 4 adult instructors present at all times.

WHAT KARATEKA MUST BRING WITH:  Karate-gi, running shoes, tracksuit, towel, t-shirts, warm clothes for later in the evening, pyjamas, underwear, socks, sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries and eating utensils (KNIFE, FORK, SPOON, DISH CLOTH, COFFEE MUG AND A HOLLOW PLATE to be used both for breakfast and other meals).  It still happens frequently that Karateka come to camp without the above.  Please mark all clothes and utensils.  Cool drink and chips are sold at the Kiosk, but please do not bring more that R30,00 spending money

The cost of the camp is R500.00 (for Karateka who are going to grade for Brown and Black belt) and R450.00 for Green belt and lower.   Please complete and return the attached slip with the camp fee to your instructor at the dojo, as soon as possible as there is only a limited amount of places available.  It will be on a first come first serve basis.
