Dear Parents and Karateka                                                                                                               27th  July 2017

KARATE CAMP FROM   22 – 24 SEPTEMBER 2017 AT BIENE DONNE,  GROOT DRAKENSTEIN, PAARL

I would like to use this opportunity to inform you timeously about our camp from Friday the 22nd September to Sunday the 24th September 2017 at Bien Donne, GROOT DRAKENSTEIN, PAARL.  This is a very nice venue where the students sleep in converted cells of the old jail. As the regulations of all Government camps has changed, we need to leave the camp site by 10h00 on Sunday 24 September. The pre grading will take place on Sunday from 08h00 till 09h45. We will then take the students to the Strand resort by bus where we will have beach training as well as a picnic lunch at the beach.  They will have a choice of a pizza, fish and chips or a burger and chips. You are welcome to come to the Strand to spend some time with us from about 11h00. The main reason for this camp is to prepare our students for our end of the year grading. The brown and black belt candidates MUST attend this camp to qualify for the grading. I would also strongly recommend those grading for green belt to also attend so that they can be properly prepared for their respective grading.

As we have a big facility we can also accommodate junior Karateka from 8 years old to attend this camp.  We will leave by bus on Friday at 18h00 from the Karl Bremer Hospital’s parking area and will meet you there again on Sunday at 16h00. We can supply you with a map on request if you want to bring your child yourself.

We will sleep in proper sleeping quarters and there is a hall we can use for training, in case of bad weather.  No boys will be allowed in the girl’s sleeping quarters and vice versa.   We cannot allow CELLULAR PHONES on the camp. In case you do go against our wishes and send a cell phone with, we will not take any responsibility for it and we will also confiscate it and keep it under lock and key.  In case of emergency you can contact Shihan Hennie at 083 626 7878 or Abe Arendse at 082 9342 887. The pool will be closed with a net at all times except when we swim which we will have 3 instructors to supervise.

Our caterers will ensure that we will have a balanced diet, including fruit and fruit juices. Please do not send Coke and frizzy drinks with. The higher grades will train for 6 hours a day and the lower grades will train 4 hours a day.  Karateka are more than welcome to bring along their toys, like cricket sets, rugby balls, soccer balls, frisbees, etc. as we will have free time for games  There will be at least 6 adult instructors present at all times.

WHAT KARATEKA MUST BRING WITH:  Karate-gi, running shoes, tracksuit, towel, t-shirts, warm clothes for later in the evening, pyjamas, underwear, socks, sleeping bag, pillow, toiletries and eating utensils (KNIFE, FORK, SPOON, DISH CLOTH, COFFEE MUG AND A HOLLOW PLATE to be used both for breakfast and other meals).  It still happens frequently that Karateka come to camp without the above.  Please mark all clothes and utensils.  Cool drink and chips are sold at the Kiosk, but please do not bring more that R30,00 spending money. Moms please keep the clothes to a minimum. The kids tend not to change clothes much.

The cost of the camp is R550.00 (for Karateka who are going to grade for Brown and Black belt) and R500.00 for Green belt and lower. If you pay before or on the 31st of August you will qualify for a R20 discount. So if you book and pay in August, it will be R530 and R480 respectively.   Please complete and return the attached slip with the camp fee to your instructor at the dojo, as soon as possible as there is only a limited amount of places available.  It will be on a first come first serve basis.
